Austin is home to three best performance spaces. There’s the Bass Concert Hall, Brockett Theatre and The Bates Recital Hall. You can watch concerts, dances, symphony orchestras, bands and solo recitals in these venues.
The Bass Concert Hall is the flagship theatre of the Texas Performing Arts. This is the largest performance space that you will find in the city of Austin. It has a seating capacity for close to 3,000 people and is fully-equipped with the finest equipment such as computerized lighting and advanced sound and rigging systems. Because this place boasts of excellent sound and spacious area, many well-known performers are attracted to perform in it.
The Brockett Theatre is a small performance space with a capacity that reaches close to 250 people. Because of its smaller size, it is frequently utilized by new talents so they become exposed to the experience of theater performance. This theater was named after Dr. Oscar G. Brockett, a former dean of the College of Fine Arts and a respected authority on theater history. Formerly, this theater was known as the Winship Drama Building’s Theater Room until it underwent the name change in April 2001.
Finally, there’s the Bates Recital Hall. This venue is specially-designed to possess the finest acoustics. It has a seating capacity for 700 guests and can serve as site for symphony orchestras, concert bands, major choral presentations, ensembles and solo recitals. This venue also features the largest tracker organ in the US, known as the Visser-Rowland organ. The Visser-Rowland organ was of 18th century design and is three-stories tall, weighs up to 24 tons and possesses 5,315 pipes.
